DTN WEEKLY ROUND UP: Significant trade did not develop until midday
Friday last week, with Northern dressed deals ranging from $290 to
$302, mostly $300, $5 higher than the prior week's weighted
averages. Southern live sales ranged from $184 to mostly $186, $2
higher than the previous week's weighted averages. According to
Thursday's Daily Direct Slaughter Cattle Negotiated Purchase Summary
reports, weekly accumulated totals were as follows, (the prior
week's weighted averages are listed in parentheses). KS
$184.00($184.12); NE $NA ($295.38); TX $NA($183.97); IA
$300.00($295.00); CO not available due to confidentiality. Note: due
to the late week trade the accumulated weekly averages are not
necessarily an accurate depiction. We will have those later this
morning when summaries are released.

The Friday Afternoon Daily Direct Slaughter Cattle report lists
week-to-date trade volume totals as: KS 14,553; NE 13,915; TX 272;
IA 11,552; CO NA due to confidentiality. Business was still being
reported at the time of the USDA Mandatory cutoff so trade volume
totals will likely be higher on summaries. Friday's slaughter
totaled 102,000 head, 18,000 less than the prior week, and 20,000
below a year ago. Saturday's kill was estimated at 9,000 head,
bringing the weekly total to 598,000 head, 24,000 under the previous
week, and down 42,000 from 2023.

The weekly average for boxed beef cutouts and boxed beef cuts:
choice $306.74(+9.96), select $293.84(+5.79), with an average choice
select spread of $12.90(+4.18), and a total load count including
cuts, trimmings, and grinds of 577(-94). Changes from the prior week
are listed in parentheses.

For the week ending May 11, 2024, Imported Beef Passed for Entry in
the U.S. totaled 46,979, 98.92% of the previous week and 97.43% of
the 4-week average.

DTN MORNING COMMENTS: Both packers and producers are busy preparing
for the week ahead this morning. It looks to be a typically quiet
Monday with bids and asking prices not established. Significant trade
volume will likely be delayed until the second half of the week. Beef
cutouts are expected to be higher with generally light box movement.

NOTE: The price and volume information listed on this page is
supplied by DTN subscribers in the interest of general cash market

mandatory reporting. While all transactions will be posted on an
anonymous basis, callers are required to identify themselves and the
location of the actual sales. DTN believes this data to be accurate
but cannot guarantee its specific reliability or whether it fairly
represents the larger cash market.

Feedlots are encouraged to call DTN with any cattle sales, at
1-402-461-3561. All sales will be listed anonymously and organized
